Biography
Dr. Kai-Han Yang, a native of Taiwan, maintains an active performing career as a soloist, collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and educator throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. In 2016, Ms. Yang was selected to study with a full scholarship at the Mozarteum (Mozart University Salzburg). During her study in Europe, she was invited to work with renowned musicians in various music master classes and international music festivals, such as Nai-Yuan Hu (the Golden Medalist of the 1985 Queen Elisabeth Music Competition) and Konstantin Scherbakov (the winner of the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition in 1983). In addition to winning awards in piano competitions, her musical accomplishments include performing with orchestras, accompanying professional choirs and operatic productions, and teaching around the globe. As an enthusiastic piano educator, she enjoys inspiring students to explore their individual creativity and find their own strength through the expression of music. Additionally, she was invited to perform at the Emerald Coast Music Alliance Festival in Florida.
Ms. Yang is passionately committed to feminism and advocates for the representation of women in music. She is deeply devoted to performing the works of women composers, highlighting their unique contributions to the musical canon. In 2024, she was invited to the La Frontera International Piano Conference, titled "Women at the Piano," where she presented "21st Century Eastern Muse," discussing the piano works of three Asian women composers.
Kai-Han Yang earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan and received a Master of Music degree and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Piano Performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Her teachers include Alon Goldstein and Dr. Thomas Rosenkranz. A passionate advocate for music education, Ms. Yang is a faculty member at UMKC Conservatory Academy and the collaborative pianist at Raymore-Peculiar High School and St. Sabina Catholic Church. She frequently performs as a piano duo with her husband, Dr. Li-Hsin Chen, giving concerts throughout the Kansas City area and Taiwan, showcasing their versatile repertoire and collaborative artistry.
